What is Children's University Scotland?

It’s something you can join at your school. When you join, we'll give you a Passport to Learning. It looks just like a normal passport, except you use it to collect Children's University credits for doing fun, interactive activities in your spare time.

When you have enough credits in your Passport, you get certificates and awards at our amazing Children's University graduations.

They might be fun things that you’re doing already, or they could be new, exciting experiences, like:

  • Playing in a school sports team
  • Acting in a play or performing in a concert
  • Exploring a high-tech science centre or an ancient Scottish castle
  • Having a day out at an art gallery, museum or zoo
  • Learning a musical instrument and joining a band
  • Getting involved in your local youth club and making new friends

...and much, much more!

Before and after school

During lunchtimes

At weekends

During the holidays

You can learn anywhere - not just in a classroom! We think you learn best when you decide where you go, what you do, and what you want to learn about.

So, what are you waiting for?

Here are some of the questions we’re asked most often.

What is a Passport to Learning?

It’s a little black book you use to collect your Children's University credits. It looks like this:

To collect a credit, you need to write down some information about the activity you took part in inside your Passport. You need to say what it was, when you did it and how long it lasted for. Then, you need to ask the person who ran the activity to put a stamp, sticker or signature next to your writing, and then your credit is complete!

This is what the inside of the Passport looks like:

How do I get a Passport to Learning?

You'll be given one when you join. Remember, your school needs to be a member before you can join.

To find out if your school has already signed up, you could ask your teacher, or ask your parent or guardian to ask your teacher.

I've already got my Passport - what next?

Great - head to our Passport Holders page to find out how to use it.

What is a learning destination?

It’s a place where you can go to take part in an exciting and fun activity, and earn a credit.

Your school is a learning destination, where you can collect credits for taking part in clubs or activities at lunchtime, before or after school.

A learning destination might also be a swimming pool, library, museum, art gallery, castle, youth club, church hall, nature reserve and even a beach! Phew!

What will I get for joining Children's University?

For a start, you’ll have great fun! All our activities are about you enjoying yourself, doing things that you love, and learning new stuff. You'll get to go to new places and make new friends along the way.

You can earn special Children's University awards and certificates when you collect enough credits. Plus, we have brilliant graduation ceremonies, where you get to wear a real university gown and special cap which you can throw into the air when you graduate!

You’ll also get to challenge yourself in new ways, set your sights high, and achieve something really special.
