Support the Curriculum for Excellence

Children get involved in a range of learning opportunities at school and in their communities

Start early in the drive to raise attainment

Children aged 5-14 are inspired to foster a positive attitude to education at an early age

Improve attendance and recognise achievement

Providing an extra incentive for attendance at extra-curricular activities and boosting skills along the way

Involve universities, colleges and other partners

We aim to involve at least one university or college in each local area, helping to pave a positive pathway for young learners

National framework, local delivery

We’re a national organisation with a local structure that’s focused on the needs of local children.

Our partner organisations – universities, colleges and local authorities – determine the structure and lead the delivery of the local Children’s University in their area.

This approach makes sure that the programme adapts to specific environments and meets the needs of local communities. It also helps children and families to forge a strong sense of attachment to their local centre.

Slide 1

Through the work of Children’s University Scotland and Aberdeenshire Children's University, young people across Aberdeenshire get the opportunity to engage in learning for fun and get the benefit of a very generous university experience. This encourages these youngsters and their families to think about the opportunity of a university career, a choice they would not otherwise consider. The feedback from all involved in this programme has been overwhelmingly positive. It has been an exciting journey so far!

Partnering with us

Local authorities can help set up and coordinate our programme with schools. That might involve supporting schools to get involved, providing financial support, helping to recruit local learning activity providers or by building connections with local groups and initiatives.

To explore the possibility of working with one of our existing centres, please get in touch.

Starting Children's University in your area

We want to develop a presence in 80% of Scotland’s local authority areas by 2020. Each of our centres promotes learning opportunities that help build confidence and create new possibilities and expectations for young learners, helping to enhance the life chances for our children.

We’re always happy to have informal discussions with any organisation that might be interested in partnering with us.

It all starts with a conversation

We’re ready to help you explore the options.
